Schools of the Week: Centennial High and Fairview Elementary

Centennial High celebrated its baseball team in a unique way March 19.

On Tuesday, the team hosted Latin Night with the goal of connecting the team and including CHS students and their families. Some baseball players' parents even traveled from Puerto Rico to cook some authentic food for the community and see the team play.

"Latin Night at CHS is a representation of what we strive to be about as a program: different people and different roles, but all the same status as CHS baseball," said CHS baseball coach Ian Saunders. "It was a chance to embrace our diversity as a team and a chance to lead with our actions as we try to bridge CHS baseball with the rest of our campus. A connected team is hard to beat, and the connection we demonstrated Tuesday night is evidence we are going in the right direction."

It's time for Math Madness at Fairview Elementary.

Every March, students at FES brush up on their math facts and compete against other classes and grade levels. One class will win the school-wide competition.

"This is something that is trying to make learning their math facts fun," said FES math coach Mandy McClure. "They can do it at home or practice wherever they are. Hopefully, this competition is a jolt that the kids need to understand the importance of these facts. It's a lot of fun for them too, and they love the competition. This event is like electricity through the buildings, and it brings the whole school together."
