Second graders at Chapman's Retreat Elementary are combining PE and math in their bowling unit.

For each strike, students earned $20, and for each spare, students earned $15. For each pin knocked down, students earned one dollar. They kept track of their money throughout class and as they earned more, were encouraged to trade it in for larger bills.

"Students are learning the various skills of bowling, which includes the proper way to hold the ball and the three-step approach," said CRES PE teacher Phil Willoughby. "We are also working on balance and hand-eye coordination. At the end, each team adds up their total to see who earned the most money."
