Across the Board - October 23, 2023

    The School Board approved several budget items, including the purchase of six new general education school buses and two new special education school buses, at its October 23 meeting.

    In his report to the Board, Superintendent Jason Golden thanked stakeholders for speaking during public comment and spoke about the focus points for WCS teachers and staff: student learning and a safe learning environment for all. Golden also spoke about the district's plan to pilot a change in the nature of bus routes and a series of community meetings to identify a location for the pilot.

    In Student Spotlights, Brentwood Middle was celebrated for being a 2023 National Blue Ribbon School. In athletics, the Grassland Middle girls volleyball team is the Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association (TMSAA) Class AA Volleyball State champions. They are coached by Grace Biggerstaff.

    The Woodland Middle boys cross-country team is the TMSAA Class AA Cross-Country State champion. They are coached by Andrew Swanson and Emily Lucas. 

    The Brentwood High boys golf team is the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) Boys Class AA Golf State champion. They are coached by Chris Saunders.

    Four students were also recognized for earning a perfect composite score on the ACT: Brentwood High's Lucy Wyatt, Franklin High's Rinaz Jamal, Nolensville High's Michael Tadrous and Summit High's Spencer Gribben.

    In New Business, the School Board:

      • General Purpose School Fund Resolution Buses - $1,124,990
      • General Purpose School Fund Resolution Radios - $1,170,000
      • General Purpose School Fund Resolution Intracategory Transfer Salary 23-24 - $15,532,302
