The Role of the Professional School Counselor
Elementary School Counselors are educators uniquely trained in child development, learning strategies, self-management, and social skills. Our role is to create and deliver a school counseling program that promotes student success and to understand, support, and advocate for the diverse needs of today’s students.
School Counselors provide services in a variety of ways, including classroom Guidance lessons, individual short-term counseling sessions, small skills-based groups, and consultation and collaboration with faculty, staff, administration, and parents.
Further information about the roles and responsibilities of a Professional School Counselor can be found at the American School Counseling Association website, www.schoolcounselor.org
