Art is an engaging course that students eagerly participate in each week. While learning basic and abstract techniques, students are able to tap into their artistic side to design masterpieces.

Art classes during the school year allow students to gain a larger appreciation for fine arts while developing their own skills. Students study topics including color, shape, form, perspective, shading, and more. In addition to encouraging students to explore various media, we follow a set of standards per grade level set forward by WCS.

Creekside’s counseling program includes classroom guidance lessons, group sessions, and individual meetings. We cover many topics including feelings, bullying, career awareness, friendship, study skills and organization, as well as our school Best Me program. Students will engage in these topics through reading of books, video clips, interactive discussions, and an art or writing project. Counselors meet with each class once per week and can meet with individual students about various concerns.

During classes in the Learning Commons (previously known as the library or media center), students engage in reading response activities and guided inquiry. Lessons range from understanding genres to creating websites based on research projects. Students will also work on design and engineering thinking projects. While classes include checking out books, students also develop many technology skills, including digital and copyright responsibility. Checkout our Media Center page for resources!

Music classes allow students at Creekside to explore and create music through movement, drama, and instrumental and vocal practices. Our grade level performances and choirs promote the ideas of cooperation and a sense of community. Allowing the students to create individual and group musical pieces in the music classroom helps with self-esteem and confidence. Music standards require that all students learn to read music and play a musical instrument.

Welcome to Physical Education at Creekside Elementary! The aim of our physical education program is to develop and improve students’ personal fitness and motor skills and encourage a lifelong love of physical activity.

We provide developmentally appropriate activities through purposeful, creative, and enjoyable instruction. By incorporating challenging yet achievable tasks, the students will gain positive attitudes about physical activity and movement.

Throughout the year, we teach students a variety of games to increase their physical stamina and strength. We also teach about tennis, football, basketball, volleyball, and more.

Students will learn age-appropriate technology skills during these fun lessons covering everything from using a mouse, to creating documents, to coding, and beyond. Students learn these computer and online skills inside the traditional classroom to help them become more adept users and responsible digital citizens.

Chess Club is designed to give students an opportunity to learn the game of chess, improve their chess skills, and challenge their peers, all while experiencing healthy competition and team spirit. Chess is used to develop critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making. Our focus is to encourage learning, sportsmanship, and fun. Chess Club will meet on Wednesday mornings at 7:45 with Mr. Hawks. Chess Club is open to 3^rd-5^th grade students.

The Creekside Basketball League is designed to teach the fundamental skills of basketball and foster interest in playing the game at a more competitive level in the future. The league is for CSES students only, and provides a great place for students to learn and play basketball alongside their friends from the classroom.

The season runs from October to February. Practices and games are held in the Creekside Elementary School gym. Practices are one night per week and games are typically played on Saturdays.

Math Olympiad is a program dedicated to stimulating enthusiasm, fostering creativity, and strengthening intuition in mathematical problem-solving. Monthly contests are administered from November through March at Creekside. Our team of 35 students, mostly 5th grade and a few 4th graders, explore mathematical concepts while developing flexibility in solving non-routine problems with multiple solution paths. The team meets weekly to practice and prepare for the contests.

Creekside Student Council is a group of 5th grade students who work on various community projects, such as a food drive, reading and math buddies, card-making for hospital workers and patients, and positive notes for staff and students. The Student Council works together to find ways to spread kindness to those who are in our school and local community.

The VSBA book club meets once a month to discuss a selection of the nominated books for the year.  Students will participate in group discussions by sharing their thoughts and ideas and will learn how to lead discussions with peers.
