ANE Counseling Program
The counseling program at Amanda H. North Elementary promotes student learning by providing the skills needed for students to be lifelong learners through individual counseling, small group counseling, life skills lessons, lunch bunches, partnership with students, parents, and teachers through direct and indirect services.
-
Life Skills Classes
Life-Skills class, previously known as classroom guidance, is a time where the school counselors teach students about life-skills topics, regarding social and emotional learning, academics and career introduction. Life skills lessons are based on Tennessee State Standards. Some of these topics can include; character development, emotional regulation, bullying, careers, and traits from ANE’s coyote pledge. Each individual lesson is tailored to fit the needs of our school and specific grade levels.
-
Small Group Counseling
Our counselors also develop and meet with small groups of students (typically three to six students) with similar needs throughout the school year. This can be in the form of an actual small group meeting, or a lunch bunch group, where students will meet and eat lunch as a group with one of the counselors. Small groups help the students understand that they are not alone in dealing with specific situations and that they can support each other.
-
Individual Counseling
Our Counselors are available to meet with students one-on-one for individual counseling needs. A student may be referred by teachers, parents, or self-referral. If you feel that your student is in need of additional support to reach their potential socially, emotionally or academically please feel free to contact the Coyote counselors to express your concerns: Alyssa Jonynas and Madeline Millard.
