Information and Procedures for Textbook Adoptions
Williamson County Schools (WCS) adopts new textbooks and instructional materials in accordance with the Tennessee Department of Education's Adoption and Implementation Cycle. These adoptions are on a six-year cycle but have been extended by the TN State Board of Education, in some cases, beyond six years. The State Textbook and Instructional Materials Quality Commission formulates the recommended textbook list in its October meeting and submits it to the State Board of Education for their consideration and final approval. Once the State Board of Education has approved a list of textbooks and instructional materials, districts follow procedures as mandated by state law to adopt instructional materials.

Upcoming Adoptions of Instructional Materials
The TN Textbook and Instructional Materials Commission is in the process of updating the Adoption and Implementation Cycle that was approved in June 2019. We have been informed that the implementation of Science, P.E/Wellness, Fine Arts and CTE instructional material has been postponed for one school year. We expect to review and adopt instructional materials for the above listed content during the 2024-25 school year with implementation of adopted materials during the 2025-26 school year.
