The Brentwood Middle School Athletic Department and sports teams model the vision and expectations established by Williamson County Schools. To learn more about athletics in Williamson County Schools, please see WCS athletic guidelines and requirements.

As Viking athletes, students will make a commitment to themselves, their teammates and the athletic program to follow the expectations of being an athlete. Brentwood Middle offers a wide variety of sports in the fall, winter, and spring seasons.

Brentwood Middle Athletic Offerings

Brentwood Middle has many athletic options for students. We categorize our sports by seasons.
- Fall athletic teams begin practice during the summer months before school starts in most cases. The fall athletic seasons run from the start of school until late October or early November.
- Winter athletic teams begin practice during the late fall. The winter athletic seasons run from approximately December through February.
- Spring athletic teams begin practice in late February to early March. The spring athletic seasons run from March to early May.

Final Forms
-
This dashboard enables parents and students to complete required athletic forms electronically and communicate with each other during the season. In order to be eligible to try out and participate in athletic programs or activities, all required athletic annual physical forms must be completed electronically through the Williamson County Schools FinalForms online dashboard.
For parents and students new to Williamson County Schools, access to the FinalForms dashboard can be obtained by contacting the BMS athletic directors or coaches.
For an athlete to compete in school athletics for the 2023-2024 school year, sports physicals must be dated after April 15, 2023 and uploaded into Final Forms This is a TMSAA Rule. Questions: Athletic Director, Coach Ben Hahs

Tryout Dates and Other Information

Football Tryouts
Athletes must have their physical loaded into Final Forms BEFORE tryouts. You must check the box for your student's sport in FinalForms to receive information. Tryouts for ALL grades will be Monday, July 8 – Friday, July 19.
6th Grade Volleyball Tryouts
Sixth grade volleyball tryouts will be held July 30 31 and August 1. All information and physicals must be completed and entered in Final Forms prior to tryouts. For questions, contact Julie Johnson.
Golf Tryouts
In order for boys to try out, they need to be able to shoot a 46 or better consistently on a regulation course. The boys' team will consist of 5-6 members. In order for girls to try out, they need to be able to shoot a 50 or better on a regulation course. The girls' team will consist of 2-3 members.
Anyone trying out should have their own clubs, golf balls, tees, and a water bottle. Students may bring a pull cart since they will be walking nine holes. A copy of a current physical must be uploaded to final forms. If there is not a physical on file, the student will not be able to try out. Students should wear khaki shorts/pants (any color), and a collared shirt. Jeans, cut-off shorts or drawstring shorts should not be worn.
Tryouts will be held August 6 and 7. Students will be allowed to call their parents when they are on the next to last hole. Spectators cannot walk or ride along with players during tryouts.

Cross Country Information and Tryouts
Grade Levels: Students at all grade levels (6th, 7th and 8th) are eligible to participate. There is only one team.
Expectations: The cross-country season officially begins in the first weeks of school. Optional conditioning days will be available in June and July. Students will run approximately 2 miles on a variety of courses.
Summer Schedule: Early Bird Summer conditioning will be held June 3-6th. Late Summer Conditioning will be held July 22-24. The first week of practice will be July 29-August 1.
Tryouts: All students will be allowed to participate as long as they are academically eligible and meet the time requirements throughout the season, including running 1.5 miles without stopping when the season begins.
Students should sign up on Final Forms for important communication over the summer. Training schedules will be sent out for runners to complete on their own over the break. If you have questions, contact Andrew Peake.

Tickets for Athletic Events

All tickets for athletic contests, both home and away, will be sold on GoFan. Athletic passes are accepted for home games and matches. No cash boxes will be kept at the gates.

Baseball - Spring Season
Grade Levels:
Students at all grade levels (6th, 7th and 8th) are eligible to participate. There is a junior varsity team and a varsity team.Expectations:
Students are chosen for the team on the basis of their particular baseball skills. Players are rated based on hitting, fielding, pitching, catching, speed and hustle. They are also judged based on their sportsmanship, attitude and attention.Tryouts:
Tryouts for the baseball team will occur in the late fall.Schedule: A schedule will be posted when available.

Basketball - Winter Season
Grade Levels:
Students at all grade levels (6th, 7th and 8th) are eligible to participate. There is a boys' team and a girls' team at each level. There is a 6th grade level, junior varsity level and varsity level.Expectations:
All athletes are evaluated based on their ball handling, shooting, defensive skills and basic fundamentals. Coaches look for players who have a grasp of the team concept, have good standing in grades and behavior, and have a good work ethic and positive attitude.Tryouts:
Tryouts are typically early in the fall. Everyone will have the ability to try out for two days before cuts are made. Those chosen will be asked back for a third day of tryouts. The final team will be selected from this group.Schedule:

Basketball Cheer - Winter Season
Grade Levels:
Students at all grade levels (6th, 7th and 8th) are eligible to participate. There is a 6th grade squad and a varsity squad.Expectations:
During the season, varsity cheerleaders will cheer for varsity football and junior varsity cheerleaders will cheer for JV football. After the football season, the two cheer squads will be divided into three squads for the basketball season. Each squad will cheer for 1/3 of the varsity basketball games. Practices will begin mid-July and continue through early December. Practices are one to two times per week.Tryouts:
Tryouts for both the football and basketball cheerleading squads are held each spring. Students learn cheers, dances and jumps for three days and on the fourth day they try out in front of judges. These tryouts are closed to the public. Varsity and junior varsity teams are announced following tryouts.Schedules:

Bowling-Winter Season
Grade Levels:
Students at all grade levels (6th, 7th and 8th) are eligible to participate.Expectations:
During the season, they will practice at least once a week, depending on how many games are scheduled. Team members are expected to practice during the off season by participating in individual play.Tryouts:
Tryouts for the baseball team will occur in the late fall.Schedule: A schedule will be posted when available.

Cross Country - Fall Season
Grade Levels:
Students at all grade levels (6th, 7th and 8th) are eligible to participate. There is only one team.Expectations:

Dance
Grade Levels:
Students at all grade levels (6th, 7th and 8th) are eligible to participate. There is a junior varsity and a varsity team.Expectations:
Coaches look for students with dance experience that are prepared to work hard and have fun while doing what they love. The JV and varsity dance teams will attend a summer camp to learn choreography and refine technique. Practices will be held after school twice a week, starting in the fall and continuing through the basketball season. The dance team will perform at the boys’ and girls’ home JV and varsity basketball games, JV and varsity home football games, as well as the pep rally. Additionally, the varsity dance team will compete in a local competition.Tryouts:
Tryouts are held each spring for both the junior varsity and varsity squads. During tryouts, dancers need to demonstrate technical skills such as splits, leaps, turns and extensions, as well as the ability to pick up and perform choreography quickly with great stage presence.Schedule: A schedule will be posted when available.

Football - Fall Season
Grade Levels:
Students at all grade levels (6th, 7th and 8th) are eligible to participate. Junior varsity and varsity teams are offered.Expectations:
Students interested in playing football should know the fundamentals of football. They should also be able to block and tackle.Tryouts:
Tryouts are typically held during the last two weeks of July. Before students can tryout, they must be registered at Brentwood Middle School and have an updated copy of their physical on file with FinalForms. Students will also need to bring cleats, shorts, t-shirts (workout clothes) for tryouts. Water will be provided, but students can bring their own drink if they prefer.Schedule: A schedule will be posted when available.

Football Cheer - Fall Season
Grade Levels:
Students at all grade levels (6th, 7th and 8th) are eligible to participate. There is one squad.Expectations:
During the season, varsity cheerleaders will cheer for varsity football and junior varsity cheerleaders will cheer for JV football. Golf - Fall Season
Grade Levels:
Students at all grade levels (6th, 7th and 8th) are eligible to participate. There is a boys' team and a girls' team.Expectations:
Boys interested in trying out must be able to shoot 44 or better consistently on a regulation course. Girls interested in trying out must be able to shoot 50 or better consistently on a regulation course. The Little Course is not considered a regulation course.Tryouts:
Tryouts will be held prior to or within the first week of school based on the availability of the golf course schedule.Schedule: A schedule will be posted when available.

Soccer - Fall Season
Grade Levels:
Students at all grade levels (6th, 7th and 8th) are eligible to participate. There is a boys' team and a girls' team. There are also varsity and junior varsity teams.Expectations:
During tryouts, students are evaluated on their dribbling, passing, communication, conditioning and teamwork.Tryouts:

Softball - Spring Season
Grade Levels:
Students at all grade levels (6th, 7th and 8th) are eligible to participate. Junior varsity and varsity teams are offered.Expectations:
Students are chosen for the teams based on their fielding, hitting and pitching skills. Teamwork and attitude are also considered.Tryouts:
Tryouts are typically held in the fall.Schedule: A schedule will be posted when available.

Tennis - Fall Season
Grade Levels:
Students at all grade levels (6th, 7th and 8th) are eligible to participate. There is a boys' team and a girls' team.Expectations:
In each match, there are 7 positions that play scored matches. Three single positions and two doubles positions. Players are ranked and play according to their ranked position. Players are selected for the teams based on the coaches’ evaluations of their skill level and their match play.Tryouts:
Tryouts are typically held in July. All tryouts will be held at Granny White Park. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to sign in. You must submit a current physical to Final Forms. You will not be allowed to participate if you do not have a current physical. All players need to bring a tennis racket and plenty of water.Schedule: A schedule will be posted when available.

Track - Spring Season
Grade Levels:
Students at all grade levels (6th, 7th and 8th) are eligible to participate in tryouts. There is one team.Expectations:
Students participating in track will take part in a variety of running events, along with jumping and throwing events. Students making the team will be allowed to participate as long as they are academically eligible. The season will last from early March until late April.Tryouts:
Tryouts for track are typically held in late February.Schedule: A schedule will be posted when available.

Volleyball - Fall Season
Grade Levels:
Girls at all grade levels (6th, 7th and 8th) are eligible to participate. There is a varsity and JV team.Expectations:
The teams are selected on the basis of skill and potential. Many of the sixth grade students have never played volleyball, so the sixth and seventh grade years are used as teaching years for these players. The varsity team focuses on refining skills and specific positions. The varsity team is eligible to participate in tournaments, including the WMAA County Championship.Tryouts:
Tryouts for the junior varsity and sixth grade teams are usually held during the first two weeks of school. Tryouts for the varsity team are held in the spring of the previous school year as well as during the first week of school.Schedule: A schedule will be posted when available.

Wrestling - Fall Season
Grade Levels:
Students at all grade levels (6th, 7th and 8th) are eligible to participate. There is one team.Expectations:
Student selection for the team is based on their ability, strength, stamina, attitude, work ethic, and ability to be coached.Tryouts:
Tryouts for teams are typically held the week following the early fall sports season. All students should have shorts, shirts, socks and tennis shoes for every day of tryouts. You do not have to purchase wrestling shoes to participate in tryouts.Schedule: 2023 Wrestling Schedule

Viking Athletic Club (VAC)

The function of the Viking Athletic Club (VAC) is to support fundraising for all sports. This organization has helped purchase scoreboards, gym floor mats, conference banners, and much more. This organization will promote student participation, school spirit and commitment to Brentwood Middle School Athletics. The Viking Athletic Club will have an online sale of BMS spirit apparel a couple of times during the school year. The first online store will be open for purchases at the beginning of the school year. All information will be communicated through the BMS newsletter.
